Sunday Stills "History"

The Sunday Still's challenge is History, anything over 60 years old.

The history on the bed:
My husband's grandfathter, "Pop", made this bed in about 1910. Some of his 13 children slept in it. The bed was made out of wild cherry. Tom's Pop was a woodworker that finished the inside of railroad passenger cars. In about 1940, when all the kids left home, it went to the tobacco shed, where it sat for 15 years. My husband's mom and dad needed it when they started their family. They had to get it out of the tobacco shed and clean it up. Look at the intricate detail.

The bed has been in Tom's parent's family since, and is in the spare bedroom of his Mom's house. His dad has passed away, but he appreciated the old ways. Tom and I appreciate these antiques also. The work and craftmanship that went into this era of furniture is outstanding.

I just happened to come across this photo tonight, as I was wondering what to post on Sunday Stills. As I talked to my husband, I learned something new about this bed, and we have been married for 29 years. I suppose we all should talk to someone who knows our family history, before it is lost.

lol! I was the same way with this challenge. We've had this anvil up in our barn and I see it every day. We've kept it with us as we've moved many times over the past 20 years of marriage...and I never bothered to ask about this anvil. I was floored when he told me about it's history!

That bed is gorgeous and so full of history, too. Thanks for sharing!
