HT's Photo Challenge "SUNSHINE"

This week's Horsetales photo challenge is "Sunshine". I will always think of the ride I had a year ago fall, on Finny, when the sun was setting. It was breathtaking, with color everywhere on the horizon.

Then we were all looking for the sun this last week. After 3 days of snow 1 week ago, then another 3 days of ice, sleet and snow this past weekend, we were feeling the effects of light deprivation. After this past snow storm that ended late Christmas Day, the sun did come out early Saturday morning.

The sun shone through the barren branches of the trees, leaving streaks of light on the snow.

The sun was beginning to shine down on the horses, warming their backs and melting the snow.

The sun shone over the field, throwing sunlight onto the fresh fallen snow.

The sun shone past the lean-to's, heating up the sides of the barn, giving the horse a warm backdrop of metal.

As I checked the drifts outside the front drive, the sun was shining across the road. I think that was the last time we saw the sun for days!

Macro Monday "Snowflake Ornament"

This week, for Macro Monday, I decided to do a snowflake ornament.

I held it into the light and got a beautiful golden color.

I held it away from the light, and the background stayed dark.

Sunday Stills "ODDS AND ENDS" 2nd try!

Well, let's try this again. This week's Sunday Stills Photo Challenge was "Odd and Ends". I took that literally - what odds and ends are laying around the house. That was my earlier post. No, Ed said, "I guess this would be anything odd lying around, so use your macro skills if you wish. Consider this a scavenger hunt and have fun…:-)." OK, now I know what I should have done! Enjoy this first photo - I think these 2 pig door stoppers are odd.

My husband, Tom, wanted me to add these 2 photos of our old odd items:

Sunday Stills "ODDS AND ENDS"

This week's Sunday Stills Challenge is "Odds and Ends". I like to keep my pictures horse related (or family related), but it was too wintery outside to find things around the tack room or barn. Since it is Christmas week, I found the left over odd and ends gift wrapping materials.

Macro Monday: ORNAMENTS

Sunday Still's Macro Monday photos are a few of my ornaments. I tried to capture the gold sparkles of two of the ornaments and the stripes of the white ornament.

Sunday Stills: CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

This week's Sunday Stills challenge is Christmas lights. I have just been too busy and the only lights that I have up are on my Christmas tree. Why do trees look better in person?

The decorations look great up close!

And finally, on the top of the tree, the angel,

HT's Photo Challenge "FUZZY"

This week, the Horsetales Photo Challenge word is "FUZZY". I didn't have time to go out to the pasture and take a picture of my horse's winter coats. But I do have a photo of one of my yearling's, Duster, fuzzy forelocks.

Sunday Stills: TECHNOLOGY

This week's challenge for Sunday Stills is the word "Technology". Obviously, since this is a photo sharing site, cameras are important.

I wanted to show a picture of a type of camera that I would love to have, but to date, I don’t own this one. Bummer!

But to me, I need my laptop, my phone, along with my camera. Probably in that order! I’m sure there are other items that are important to me, like my alarm radio to wake me up in the morning, definitely the coffee pot, and probably the tv that I view when I need to view home decorating shows for ideas and then to watch while I vegetate in the evenings. Oh, I love programmable heating systems, so that when I arrive home in the evenings in the winter, my home is waiting for me with warmth!

Even though I talk a lot on the phone, I don't think that I could function without my laptop! I upload pictures, I write my blog and save it in my word processing program, and I keep track of my horse business. I travel with my laptop, I make sure I can plug it in no matter where I go, so I have a converter, and I think I dream in laptop language.

Do you see what site my laptop is currently on? LOL

My cell phone is almost as important. I talk with my family and my customers. AND my telephone company gets to collect a little more money from me so that I can "tether" to my laptop. That means, I can get internet almost anywhere where I travel to! I already pay for internet with the blackberry phone that I have, and now I get to pay extra to hook into my laptop to have the SAME internet service. This doesn't seem fair somehow, but I will pay, because I love this luxury. I'm waiting for the cell phone companies to realize that people don't want to pay extra for something that they already have. Maybe the cell phone companies will start offering this hook-up for free. I’m waiting for that day and I will be first in line!

Since I have rekindled my love of photography, I love cameras. I have a Canon Powershot SX 10, mostly due to the cost and ease of travel. Especially when I need to pack my camera into a cantle bag on a saddle, while I trail ride.

But I would love this camera! Powerful zooms. Extra technology and ease of use. Geez, I think this camera does the work for you, and you almost don’t need to be there to take the pictures!

That’s it. I could probably live without heat if I have my laptop, cell phone and camera. I can take pictures and blog everywhere I go!

Come along on the journey of photography, laptops, and cell phones with me!

HT's Photo Challenge "COLD"

It was so cold that the horse's eye lashes froze!

More Snow

15" of snow was the total of the snows that came since Monday, after blizzard conditions Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

The fields were covered where the wind didn't blow the snow away.

Even though the horses were covered in snow, they were busily eating hay to keep warm.

35 mph winds made the horse's water tanks freeze over, even with water heaters in them.

Even with the extreme cold, the horses were feeling frisky in the early morning.

SNOW

Snow is starting to come on Monday,

and on Tuesday, we had this:

I wonder what I will wake up to tomorrow, and so does Starlet!
